You will make an impact:

The Director Enterprise Artificial Intelligence will be the operational center of gravity for eClinical Solutions’ AI-First journey. Unlike a purely strategic role, this leader brings deep technical experience having personally built AI agents, designed ML pipelines, and led engineering teams delivering AI capabilities in production. That technical foundation is what makes this role uniquely effective: the ability to assess what is genuinely feasible, guide teams through complex implementation challenges, and credibly engage with both technical architects and business executives. Working in close alignment with the departments, the EVP Global Operations, and the SLT, this role is pivotal in transforming how eClinical operates, competes, and delivers value.

Your day to day:

  • AI Governance & Responsible AI
    • Design, own, and continuously evolve eClinical Solutions' enterprise AI Governance Framework covering responsible AI principles, risk management, bias mitigation, data privacy, and regulatory compliance for a life sciences context
    • Manage and review processes that ensure AI initiatives across all departments meet ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements including 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, and ICH/GCP guidelines
    • Define and enforce AI quality gates across the AI development lifecycle from use case approval through deployment and ongoing monitoring in partnership with Compliance, Legal, and IT Security
    • Serve as the enterprise authority on responsible AI use, advising department leaders and AI Champions on governance requirements and risk mitigation strategies
  • AI Value Office (AIVO) Leadership
    • Lead the AI Value Office (AIVO) as the central hub for measuring, tracking, and communicating the business impact of AI initiatives across eClinical Solutions
    • Manage our standardized AI business case and value realization framework, ensuring all AI initiatives are tied to measurable outcomes including productivity gains, cost savings, cycle time reduction, and client value delivery
    • Maintain an enterprise AI initiative portfolio, tracking progress, ROI, and strategic alignment across all departments and use cases
    • Produce regular AI performance reporting for the EVP Global Operations and SLT, translating AI program outcomes into clear business language
    • Champion a culture of outcome accountability driving departments from AI experimentation toward sustained, value-generating AI adoption
  • Enterprise AI Architecture Compliance & Evolution
    • Serve as the enterprise steward of the existing AI architecture blueprint ensuring all department and cross-functional AI initiatives comply with established reference patterns, integration standards, and technical guidelines
    • Conduct regular architecture compliance reviews across AI use cases and implementations, identifying deviations and working with teams to remediate gaps or obtain appropriate exceptions
    • Monitor the evolving AI technology landscape including advances in LLMs, agentic AI, workflow automation, and cloud AI platforms and assess implications for the existing blueprint
    • Own the blueprint refinement and versioning process, coordinating with the elluminate R&D team and relevant technical stakeholders to incorporate updates as technology and business needs evolve
    • Act as the liaison between department AI teams and the elluminate R&D organization when enterprise use case requirements surface architectural gaps or opportunities channeling structured input without directing product development, and leveraging personal technical experience to validate proposed solutions
  • Department AI Champions & SLT Collaboration
    • Serve as the primary program lead for eClinical Solutions' network of department AI Champions providing structured guidance, coordination, accountability, and escalation support to move beyond ad-hoc AI tool adoption
    • Design and facilitate regular AI Champion forums, ensuring cross-departmental learning, use case sharing, and alignment to enterprise AI priorities
    • Partner with department leaders to identify, prioritize, and design AI use cases that are feasible, governed, and aligned to measurable business outcomes
    • Collaborate with the SLT to socialize the enterprise AI roadmap, communicate progress against eNOVA milestones, and align investment priorities with strategic business goals
    • Represent the AI function in SLT planning and business reviews, providing visibility into AI risks, opportunities, and organizational readiness
  • Organizational AI Enablement
    • Scale a Center of Automation and AI (CoA+) that serves as the internal knowledge hub for AI best practices, reusable assets, experimentation outcomes, and lessons learned
    • Partner with HR and departmental leaders to embed AI capability development into workforce planning, onboarding, and performance frameworks
    • Foster a culture of AI-first thinking that empowers teams to identify AI opportunities, raise governance concerns, and contribute to eClinical Solutions' collective AI maturity
    • Personally lead or directly support proof-of-concept AI and agentic builds within the CoA+, demonstrating technical leadership and setting the quality bar for AI development standards across the enterprise

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field required; master’s degree in AI/ML, Information Systems, or MBA strongly preferred and/or equivalent work experienced preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in AI and technology leadership, with a career that includes hands-on technical roles building AI systems, ML models, or intelligent agents, not solely strategy or program management preferred
  • Demonstrated experience designing and operating an AI governance framework, including responsible AI policies, risk management, and compliance
  • Proven track record establishing and running an AI Value Office, AI CoE, or equivalent enterprise AI program management function
  • Direct, demonstrable experience building AI agents or multi-agent systems, designing LLM-powered workflows, or developing and deploying AI capabilities in a professional setting ideally in an enterprise or life sciences context
  • Solid technical foundation in AI/ML, LLMs, and agentic AI systems with hands-on experience designing, building, or deploying AI agents or capabilities in a production or near-production environment; sufficient depth to evaluate technical proposals, guide teams, and directly contribute to complex builds
  • Experience in clinical research, life sciences, or health technology; familiarity with ICH/GCP guidelines, 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, and regulated data environments strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical AI teams including data scientists, ML engineers, or AI developers with a track record of shipping AI capabilities, not just overseeing programs
  • Strong executive presence and ability to translate AI complexity into clear, compelling business narratives for SLT and Board-level audiences
  • Exceptional cross-functional collaboration, facilitation, and stakeholder alignment skills
  • Proven ability to manage AI program portfolios, budgets, and vendor relationships
  • Strategic and systems thinker with strong execution discipline comfortable navigating ambiguity while driving measurable progress
