About the Role

The Field Technician role includes a combination of local field service and regional/national installation, supervision, and QA support. The Field Technician provides support for New Era Technology project teams by completing work in the field at customer sites and acting as installers and supervisors to sub-contractors. The role is responsible for assuring all facets of field operations are executed safely and in the prescribed amount of time in accordance with the scope of work.

Essential Functions

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with customers, stakeholders, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure that all assigned work is completed safely and to industry specifications.
  • Complete client and company checklists, photos, and test results within 24 hours of completion.
  • Keep Project Managers apprised of job progress and problems.
  • Provide after-hours or emergency service on an as-needed basis.
  • Installation of cabling infrastructure including fiber (Single/Multi-mode), copper (Cat 3, 5e, 6), and shielded backbone applications.
  • Installation, troubleshooting, and servicing of POS, CCTV, video monitoring, security systems, and low-voltage cabling equipment.
  • Installation of high-speed circuits, routers, switches, and modems.

Required Experience & Education

  • In-depth experience with cabling infrastructure installation, termination, and testing.
  • Experience installing, programming, and servicing telephone, PBX, and key systems.
  • Experience installing, troubleshooting, and servicing 2 or more of the following: POS, CCTV, video monitoring, security systems, or computer equipment.
  • Knowledge of Cisco and Adtran high-speed circuits, routers, and switches.
  • Ability to login to network equipment via GUI or command line using terminal emulators.
  • Knowledge of IP subnetting and wireless networking (Ekahau/AirMagnet).
  • Valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to use basic hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment for voice and network hardware.
  • Knowledge of time tracking software and intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to establish and retain customer confidence and provide clear, professional communication.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Work on remote job sites in various stages of construction.
  • Sitting and driving may be required for up to 100% of the workday.
  • Ability to carry tools and materials and lift up to 80 lbs.
  • Required to use ladders and Scissor/Boom lifts.
  • Travel by car and plane up to 100% of the time, with overnight travel up to 80%.
