About The Team and Role
The Gecko networking team is looking for skilled developers to work on a first-class networking stack and improve web experiences for millions of Firefox users. We are responsible for the fundamental network protocols and features like HTTP, QUIC, caching, and DNS. We also work on advanced web platform networking APIs like Fetch and WebTransport to provide a performant and secure browsing experience.
What You’ll Get To Do
- Improve Firefox’s web browsing experience with a particular focus on the networking stack and network-related APIs (e.g., Fetch, WebTransport).
- Design and implement new web platform features and networking protocols in collaboration with the web and internet standards community.
- Debug and fix correctness and performance problems in our multi-threaded codebase.
- Debug platform-specific networking issues.
- Improve Firefox’s stability and correctness.
What You Bring
- Experience with programming in Rust and/or C/C++ with familiarity in memory safety, test-driven development, data analysis, and secure software development practices.
- Fluency in English and a desire to conduct software engineering work in the open.
- Previous experience with networking and/or systems programming is a bonus.
- Enrollment in a university in Germany and willingness to occasionally visit our office in Berlin.
