About this team and role:
A Staff Operations Engineer leads the design, reliability, and evolution of hybrid-cloud and workplace infrastructure. This senior role spans teams, drives complex initiatives, sets technical direction, and ensures systems are scalable, secure, and efficient. This role combines technical execution with leadership, shaping architecture both directly and collaboratively.
What you’ll do:
- Domain Architecture & Technical Direction: Own and evolve architecture, design scalable systems, and contribute to long-term technical strategy.
- Complex Problem Solving & Execution: Lead delivery of ambiguous infrastructure projects and remain hands-on with critical systems.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work across IT, SRE, and Security teams to unify solutions and influence technical decisions.
- Reliability, Operations & Scaling: Improve system reliability through monitoring, SLO definition, and root cause analysis.
- Infrastructure & Networking Depth: Support core infrastructure components including DNS, networking, and identity systems.
- Automation & Tooling: Build automation using Infrastructure as Code to reduce operational toil.
- Mentorship & Technical Guidance: Mentor engineers and raise the technical quality of the team through reviews.
- Documentation & Operational Clarity: Maintain clear runbooks and documentation for owned systems.
What you’ll bring:
- 6+ years of experience in systems engineering or infrastructure roles.
- Strong experience designing and operating production infrastructure.
- Expertise in VMware, Cisco UCS, and Application/Network Loadbalancers.
- Solid understanding of Linux/Unix Operating Systems and networking fundamentals (DNS, TCP/IP, routing, firewalls).
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical work across teams.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Puppet, Ansible).
- Proficiency in Python.
- Familiarity with observability tooling, reliability practices, and containerization.
- Exposure to security best practices in infrastructure design.
