Position Overview

Mentors are industry professionals who provide world-class technical support to our learners in their Nanodegree journey. All our mentors are handpicked through a rigorous selection process so that we can truly be #studentfirst. As a mentor, you will be meeting virtually on a weekly basis with your students for community support, live office hours and other activities. Required skills/qualifications:

  • Fluency in English both written and spoken
  • Eligibility Requirements: Mentors must have at least 7 years of industry experience or a master’s degree in the relevant field.

Technical competence:

    • Hands-on software engineering experience
    • Strong proficiency in Python (or similar backend language)
    • Solid experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and scalable test design
    • Strong understanding of design patterns (creational, structural, behavioral)
    • Experience with microservices and cloud-native architectures
    • Ability to design and review scalable system architectures
    • Experience using AI-assisted coding tools in real development workflows
    • Ability to evaluate AI-generated code for quality, security, and maintainability
    • Strong code review and debugging skills
    • Experience working on production-grade distributed systems preferred
  • Experience teaching technical concepts and public speaking, organizing technical talks, or webinars
  • Positive character, trusted by the students, creating emotional ties in the group
  • Flexibility at their current job to take this challenge part-time as an external contractor

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support for students over an online community forum
  • Answer questions around course content over the forum and facilitate content for students who get stuck in learning
  • Host one weekly live virtual session to offer direct, real-time support to students.
  • Redirect learners to appropriate support channels and escalate issues to the Mentor Operations team when needed
