The Role
Voltus is seeking a Residential Business Development Director to build and grow relationships with residential distributed energy resource partners across North America as we expand our virtual power plant network into the residential segment. This role focuses on recruiting megawatts of residential load into Voltus VPP programs by collaborating with companies managing flexible residential assets. The successful candidate will manage complex partnership development cycles from initial contact to contract execution and program launch. This is an individual contributor role requiring a deep understanding of the residential DER landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and manage new relationships with residential DER partners across North America.
- Deepen relationships with existing partners to launch new programs in additional territories and with new asset types.
- Develop sustainable business models that balance consumer acquisition costs with profitability for partners and Voltus.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Energy Markets, Product Management, Engineering, Legal, and Marketing to create winning solutions.
- Manage the full sales cycle, including outreach, contract negotiation, and ongoing account management.
- Represent Voltus at industry conferences and in-person meetings.
- Contribute internal insights to help refine residential offerings and competitive positioning.
Desired Qualifications
- 5 to 10 years of experience in business development, partnerships, or sales within the energy industry.
- Direct experience working at a residential DER OEM, DERMS, VPP platform, or demand response company.
- Strong familiarity with wholesale electricity markets and demand response participation mechanisms.
- Proven capability to manage long, complex sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders.
- Exceptional analytical skills, specifically regarding data analysis and financial modeling.
- Proficiency with professional tools including Google Suite, Salesforce, and Slack.
