About the Role
Beacon Biosignals is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Datastore team. The Datastore sits at the heart of Beacon's platform, defining our foundational data model and serving as the centralized repository and API for brain data collected from clinical studies. This role supports the analytical tools, services, and applications used by our scientists, clinicians, and partners.
This role emphasizes the design and scaling of backend systems for data infrastructure, such as event-driven pipelines, data modeling, and APIs that enable scientific and clinical data use. You will lead the design and integration of new services and components for data and event processing, contribute to scaling the Datastore’s core infrastructure, and collaborate with platform and application teams to implement APIs that unlock new workflows.
What success looks like
- Partner with product managers, internal stakeholders, and other development teams to design new integrations, services, and solutions for scaling the data platform.
- Implement features with high standards for data integrity, design soundness, and maintainability.
- Draft RFCs to lead complex feature discovery and technical design phases, helping the team align on development decisions.
- Leverage feedback from internal and external stakeholders to improve operational robustness via new documentation, tools, and dashboards.
What you will bring
- 5+ years of backend development experience, including at least 2 years focused on data engineering, data platforms, or infrastructure.
- Strong proficiency in SQL, with production experience working with PostgreSQL.
- Hands-on experience with data streaming and event processing (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or Amazon Kinesis).
- Proficiency in a data-oriented programming language such as Julia, Python, or R.
- Experience deploying and operating services in containerized environments, including Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Helm.
- Experience in TypeScript/JavaScript (Node.js) is a plus for API integration work.
- A collaborative, self-directed mindset with excellent communication skills for remote environments.
