The Role
Hone is seeking a Staff Cloud Engineer to join our Engineering team. You will serve as the principal technical authority for cloud infrastructure across Hone’s healthcare platform. This is a high-impact role where you will set the long-term infrastructure strategy, establish engineering-wide standards, and lead complex infrastructure initiatives. You will act as a force-multiplier, raising the capability of the engineering team through mentorship, architecture guidance, and hands-on technical leadership.
Primary Responsibilities
- Define and own Hone’s multi-year cloud infrastructure strategy on Microsoft Azure, balancing reliability, security, cost, and velocity.
- Lead the architecture and delivery of complex initiatives, including multi-region resilience and zero-trust networking.
- Architect and provision cloud infrastructure using Pulumi, establishing patterns and guardrails for the wider team.
- Design, build, and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.
- Define organization-wide infrastructure standards including tagging, cost governance, and security baselines.
- Collaborate with leadership to translate business requirements into infrastructure roadmaps.
- Partner with security and compliance teams to design HIPAA-compliant cloud configurations.
- Drive operational excellence through observability tooling and established SLO/SLA frameworks.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of cloud engineering or DevOps experience, with 5+ years specifically on Microsoft Azure in production.
- Proven experience as a staff or principal-level engineer, leading cross-team initiatives and architectural strategy.
- Deep hands-on experience with Pulumi (preferred) or equivalent IaC tools like Terraform or Bicep.
- Expert-level experience building CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
- Mastery of core Azure services: AKS, App Service, Azure Functions, Key Vault, and Azure Networking.
- Proficiency in multiple scripting and general-purpose languages such as Python, TypeScript, PowerShell, or Bash.
- Deep familiarity with HIPAA compliance, zero-trust architecture, and cloud security best practices.
- Expert-level experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/AKS).
