About Us
Scotch is building the next-generation operating system for beverage alcohol retailers — combining POS, payments, back office, and e-commerce into a platform purpose-built for liquor stores.
We’re modernizing one of the oldest industries in the world: the $1.6T beverage alcohol market. Our platform helps retailers run more efficiently through streamlined payments, inventory management, reporting, and day-to-day operations.
Position Overview
We’re looking for a UX/UI Designer who can own design end-to-end—from early research and problem framing through to shipped, polished experiences. You’ll be the thought partner to our product managers: someone who pushes back on over-specified solutions, proactively surfaces problems we didn’t think to ask about, and brings both user insight and design craft to every decision.
You’ll work closely with PMs and engineers across a fast-moving R&D team. If you’re energized by ambiguity, motivated by real user impact, and excited about AI’s role in shaping both the products you design and your own workflow—this is a great fit.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead discovery and research—user interviews, contextual inquiry, usability testing—and translate what you learn into clear design decisions that inform product strategy.
- Define and own the design process from problem framing to shipped features.
- Partner closely with PMs to define requirements and challenge assumptions.
- Collaborate with engineers to bring designs to life faithfully. Stay curious about frontend capabilities and be a driver of the evolving AI-assisted design/build loop.
- Own and evolve our design system: establish patterns, maintain consistency, and raise the quality bar across the product.
- Participate in the full product lifecycle, including contributing to roadmap conversations and post-launch iteration.
Qualifications & Skills
- 4+ years of product/UX design experience in a startup or fast-moving environment.
- Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end work—research, problem framing, and shipped product.
- Strong visual and interaction design skills.
- Expertise in research: designing discovery plans, synthesizing findings, and turning ambiguous problems into clear design direction.
- Ability to think in systems, focusing on patterns, consistency, and scalability.
- Comfortable working alongside engineers with an understanding of implementation constraints.
- Proficient with Figma and Claude, with the ability to prototype quickly to test assumptions.
