Role Overview
The Wikimedia Foundation seeks a Community Management Associate to engage and grow online communities, develop tone-of-voice guidelines, identify real-time cultural moments, and help build a Gen Z-focused social media presence for Wikipedia and broader visibility for the Wikimedia Foundation. You will play a key role in shaping our community management approach, bringing energy, creativity, and curiosity to how Wikipedia and the Foundation appear across social media platforms.
Community Engagement & Strategy
- Helping to develop and document a community management playbook for Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation.
- Experimenting with and evolving each brand’s social tone of voice that resonates with global audiences.
- Proactively identify and act on engagement opportunities to connect with new or underrepresented audiences.
- Surfacing and amplifying community stories, milestones, and impact moments that showcase the diversity of the volunteer communities.
Innovation & Growth
- Staying current with social media platform innovations, new features, and emerging trends.
- Recommending and testing community management and social listening tools to improve responsiveness and scalability.
Operational Support
- Assisting with tracking and reporting on engagement performance, community sentiment, and emerging discussions on social media platforms.
- Contributing to experimentation and reporting to shape a data-informed approach to growth.
Ideal Qualifications
- Deeply embedded in digital culture, trends, and the tone of different short-form video platforms (especially TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts).
- Strong communicator with experience writing and editing social comment copy in a consistent, brand-aligned voice.
- Data-aware experimenter who uses analytics and insights to inform and evolve social strategy.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with distributed, remote teams across time zones and geographies.
